Welcome to the Potucek Family Blog!
ENJOYING 2010 EVERYONE!?!
Been a quiet Summer post/comment-wise!
I hope everyone is enjoying it!
And ALMOST FALL Again!
Welcome to all the Potucek`s - family members, cousins, aunts/uncles and those somehow related to this great group!
We (those who run this site...) on the Potucek side are originally from New York after the paternal grandparents emigrated there from Europe at the turn of the century (1890-1900-ish).
Currently we know there are 5 families still living on Long Island, at least 2 in Colorado (1 in Colorado Springs and 1 in Denver) and close relatives in New Mexico.
Over the years we have seen some Potucek`s in Colorado, but not too many. 2 total in 28 years of living here if I remember correctly. Not too many of us around this part of the USA!
But over time, we hope to hear from a lot of you and maybe get a better picture of where we all are!
PS. If you do wish to post/comment and contribute - remember this IS the Internet. Do not put any information that is too personal, such as phone numbers/address and the like - keep it casual and lets keep it safe!
Take care...
JPP

I am the third daughter of Charles William Potucek, Jr. (1925-2001), the eldest son of Charles William and Lulu Kinlund Potucek, wheat farners in Sumner County, Kansas. Dad's Bohemian Catholic grandfather and grandmother, Vasclav and Ludmilla Potucek, are buried in Oxford, Kansas. I will forward this to my aunts, Dad's sisters, whose memories of their Potucek heritage will be of interest to you. God bless you.

Hello,There is also a family of Potucek in Australia, since 1949,the family traces back to czechoslovakia, and possibly oklahoma in us.
Family is originally from Brooklyn but I grew up and still am, out on the Island. Currently trying to keep the Potucek name going by praying for more Y's than X's, and constantly thinking about baseball and power tools. Looking forward to finding out more about other Potuceks out there.
LOL... it is funny tho how the spell checker flags Potucek as being misspelled.
Best Regards to all :-) ~SJSP
My family lived in NYC from the time they 'got off the boat' and there are still 3 Potucek family's on Long Island from that group. My Dad, 2 brothers and a sister.
Glad you stopped by!

My grandfather, William, Emil, and Joseph were all brothers. My father's name was Albert. Bubby and Jedde's homeplace was maybe a mile from where I grew up in Northern Minnesota. My uncles, Emil and Charlie, who lived close by, would come to visit my grandpa when I was growing up, and I remember them speaking Bohemian. I never did meet Unlce Joe, but the family spoke of him and his family often. My grandpa was the oldest of the four brothers and one sister, I think. I am the 4th daughter, and I have two younger brothers, one of whom still lives on our homeplace. I am the 4th Generation of Bubby and Jedde.
The Sister of my grand-grandfather was Marie Malus. She was born an 14 Feb 1886 in Hluk, Morova, CZ. She was married with Josef Potucek. Their adress in the early 20th century was 1385 e Ave a, New York. She dies in Oct 1971 Brewster, Putnam, New York. I search her descendants. I have many ancestors of Marie. There are relatives possible? Please contact me.
I remeber stories from my grandfather (1905-1988) that many of his cousins have left for US before WWI. Great to see that they try to reconnect after so many years.
We created this blog with the hope that other Potucek's would find it and perhaps find other distant relatives in the process.
Its been slow going, but we do get posts and some interest. *YAY*
As been stated, my portion of the family is from the Moravian portion of what I believe to be the Czech Republic now (wish we would stop changing the names!) as well as some roots back to Romania according to some people I spoke with while I was in Prague in 2005. I can pretty much count on my hands the relatives I know are in the states right now with our last name that are directly related to me - BUT that does not discount the fact that most of us 'Potucek's are likely related in some shape or form!
Glad to hear from you, and I hope to see a lot more over time!
Regards,
Jerome

I'm the youngest daughter of Carol Potucek Nowacki, who commented above. Our family's traditional Christmas Eve dinner has always included a sweet bread we call "buchtykees." While our Czech pronunciation and spelling of the bread may have changed throughout the years, this particular recipe has been handed down for generations (or at least since the time of John and Marie in northern Minnesota). I'm curious to learn if any of our extended Potucek family has also carried on this tradition or remembers the bread from their childhood.
Thanks and I look forward to your replies/comments. :)
Here's hoping everyone has a happy, healthy and wonderful 2010!
Especially the Potucek's and all those related! *grins*
